The Minnesota Toy Library is thrilled to receive gently used toys that can help make playtime more accessible for every child. We rely on the generosity of our community, and we ask that you please review the donation criteria below to ensure that your items align with our needs. As a small, volunteer-driven organization, it's important that all donations are appropriate for our collection and usable for our members.

Donation criteria

We’re happy to accept gently used toys in like-new condition that meet the following guidelines:

age appropriate

Toys for children aged 0-5 years old.

educational value

We prefer toys that encourage learning, creativity, and development.

non-toxic materials

Wooden toys or those made from non-toxic materials are highly valued.

complete sets

Toys should have all the pieces required for them to function properly.

  • We currently cannot accept:

    • Stuffed animals

    • Broken toys

    • Toys with corroded battery parts

    • Baby items (e.g., play mats, bouncy chairs, walkers, swings)

    • Children's books

    • Recalled toys (due to safety concerns)

    • Large outdoor playhouses (but we do accept small outdoor/indoor items like slides, trikes, and small trampolines)

  • If we are unable to use a donation in our library, we’ll add it to our annual garage sale in the spring. For items not suitable for resale or use, we will make every effort to repurpose or recycle them responsibly, ensuring minimal waste ends up in the landfill. We’re committed to creating as little waste as possible!

  • Donating toys is simple! You can drop off your gently used toys at any of our lending events. For more details on event times and locations, check out our Locations & Events page.

  • In addition to toys, we also accept the following items that help us run smoothly:

    • Plastic zipper bags

    • Bookcases and shelving

    • Rubber bands

    • Translators (for helping us reach more communities in the metro area)

    • Special skills: Graphic designers, photographers, social media experts, and outreach volunteers are always welcome to support us!
